Tammurriata black

[1945] Text by Edward
Nicolardi
Music by Mario EA

In 1945 Edward Nicolardi is administrative manager of a hospital in Naples
. Something happens in the maternity ward "strange" to a girl Neapolitan
a child is born with black skin. Anybody looking for excuses
: maybe there is something that science can not explain?
The reality is clear. The year before had come to Naples
American soldiers and among them many men of color since then
cases of children born with black skin had become frequent.
Nicolardi Edward (who has already written the lyrics of Neapolitan
some success, including the famous Voice 'and the night of 1904)
goes home and writes the lyrics to "Tammurriata black. His
consuocero EA Mario, a famous musician (author of, among other
Legend of the Piave, a historic part of the First World War), the
them immediately in music and making a song and delicate irony, the most beautiful and
enthralling history of the Neapolitan song. The
song becomes perhaps the best testimony of Living in Naples
the First World War, and in all Italian cities where life slowly starts
.

"Tammuriata black" was then taken up and re-launched in the seventies
from New Society of Folk Song, which released this song
throughout Italy and has made the great national achievement.
Recently it has also provided a rousing version Daniele Sepe.

"It llevar? A pistuddà": The term derives from a contraction napoletanizzata of the phrase "let the pistol down" (lower your weapons, referring to the Americans)

Cette chanson a été écrit après the World War II, when,
Naples, there were many U.S. soldiers of color who have left
... memories for Neapolitan. Yes, white women gave birth
black children.

I do not understand what is happening and we do not understand what we see.
A child is born and he is all black, even if his mother called Ciro.
You can say what you want, but the child is black. The gossips
only talk about this.
This is not the first time this has happened.
Sometimes it takes is a glance at a woman falls in love.
You can say what you want, but the child is black. The priest
said: "Do not worry, just think, you will see
we can explain everything.
Where corn grows, even if it is different is always wheat."

In some areas, the castanets are divided into "male" and "female" depending on which are played respectively with the right or the left. "This example shows an ancient symbol of the body according to which the man, his body in general, is half male and half female. Such a view is typical of the ancient world and Eastern Europe, but also is found in the concept of divinity in the South. Some Madonna, for example, have the representation iconographic sun (right) and moon (left), or "masculine" and "feminine" '(Sergio De Gregorio, in the enclosed LP "Music and folk songs of Campania - vol 1." ). At

2 - vocabulary and content

As for the contents of tammurriate, this is not narrative songs almost never have a logical articulation fixed once and for all. The performers draw on a repertoire of verses, placing them by analogy: each "composition" is then to be unique and individual document, which is stored as couplets of the basic components of a language-magic ritual.
